How do you solve d/8<-3?

Can someone please tell me how I would solve this, I am going over my son's homework, I don't have his book and I can't remember how to do these. It's been a yew years...

Thanks

How do you solve d/8%26lt;-3?
d/8%26lt;-3

multiply each side by 8

d%26lt;-24
Reply:=%26gt; d%26lt; -3*8

=%26gt; d%26lt; -24
Reply:d/8 %26lt;-3

which means

d%26gt; -3/8
Reply:d/8 %26lt; -3

d %26lt; - 24 {multiply both sides by 8}
Reply:You get rid of a fraction by multiplying by its inverse. The inverse of 1/8 is 8. Whatever you do to one side you must do to another. So:

d/8 %26lt; -3

d %26lt; -24

The sign does not change because you did not multiply or divide by a negative.
