People of Malaysia, whata is your opinion of Mahathir's legacy?

Would you find him comparable to Lee Kuan Yew of Singapore, and agree that he was a gifted leader who through great fore-sight and sagacity of action, transformed his country from a tropical poverty-stricken back-water into a roaring Asian tiger?



Do you feel that inherent deficiencies in Mahathir's famous reforms are somehow responsible for the pockets of poverty that still exist in Malaysia? And how do you feel your country measures against its old rival,Singapore?

People of Malaysia, whata is your opinion of Mahathir's legacy?
Mahathir sees Lee Kuan Yew as his mentor. In many ways, he led the country on alot of common principles. He is ruthless, practical and man of action. Putting his DPM behind bars is a very clear example. At times, he was too bold and stepped on the toes of many world leaders.



He is not my favorite PM but i hv to give him credits for bringing the country to the current level. He has brought alot of developments for the country and has marketed it well internationally. At least he was brave to critcize the Malays and was fair to make critical and honest remarks on his own race. For that i truly respect him.
Reply:My own opinion is that Mahathir is on par with KuanYew.Their near identical draconian style and ways to boost the economy.

Both shows no mercies to political enemies too.

But KuanYew task was so much easy if compares with Mahathir.

As majority of singaporeans are chinese ,KuanYew dont have the big headache to kowtows to "islamic"thingy.

While Mahathir have to face such things as his political party is malay muslim base.

Actually the biggest ever mistake Malaysia and mahathir did was to make government civil service base entirely or 90% malay muslims and the continuation of New Economic policies which heavily favours the malay muslims.

Mahathir paid too much attention to malay muslims whims and fancies but then it is just reality that he needed those supports for his party.



note: KuanYew do not have problematic successor, Mahathir regretted big time that he chosen abdullah as succesor
