The History Of The Middle Finger?

Before the Battle of Agincourt in 1415, the French, anticipating victory over the English, proposed to cut off the middle finger of all captured English soldiers.

Without the middle finger it would be impossible to draw the renowned English longbow and therefore they would be incapable of fighting in the future. This famous English longbow was made of the native English Yew tree, and the act of drawing the longbow was known as "plucking the yew" (or "pluck yew"). Much to the bewilderment of the French, the English won a major upset and began mocking the French by waving their middle fingers at the defeated French, saying, "See, we can still pluck yew!"

Since 'pluck yew' is rather difficult to say, the difficult consonant cluster at the be ginning has gradually changed to a labiodentals fricative 'F', and thus the words often used in conjunction with the one-finger-salute! The pheasant feathers on the arrows used with the longbow that the symbolic gesture is known as "giving the bird."

The History Of The Middle Finger?
Seems right for the middle finger, because originally holding the point and middle finger to show you had them both was the original gesture. When they captured an archer they cut off the pointy one so they could never pull the bow again. As for the f word that gets fuzzy. I heard a story that it meant "Fornication Under Command of the King" When the Navy would be out they got rowdy as sailors do; and so they were to at times ordered to go to port and get jiggy, so that when they went back to sea they could have their minds clear and on the battle at hand.
Reply:WOW! That was awesome! I'll give it a 10/10 rating!

Reply:I love that story lol. I received it in an email once. Fun history :)

Don't exactly know what your question is, but this was funny and informative. Thanks for posting it.

If you were actually asking 'what is the history of the middle finger'. I would have answered with the exact same story that you have here.
Reply:This would be a better story, if it wasn't stolen from the story of why the english "flip the bird" by showing their first two fingers.

Seriously, you have the wrong gesture for this story. Think about it, if you were right, the Brits would flip the middle finger.
Reply:LOL!! Oh my god are you really serious about this?
Reply:that's something i cud share to my friends..lol
Reply:i thought my ex girl friend invented it. she certainly seemed to have been born using it. i never heard the history as you described it but it sure explains a lot, makes sense, and is interesting. Don't know where you found that info either, but it sure seems possible and plausible.
Reply:is it true.
Reply:Wow...That's a interesting fact to tell your history teacher...
Reply:lmao.. now thats funny.. hehehehe

here is a weird version of how the word fu*k came into existance:-

In ancient times in england, before you have sex, you needed a special permision from the king. People who got this permission used to hang a placard on their door which said:-

Fornication Under Consent of king (The short form for that is F.U.C.K.)

hows it?????
Reply:interesting story.

But is they changed the pluck%26gt;F**k

then the sentunce would read "See, we can still F**k yew"

that's just weird!!!
