A cuckoos nest?
Reply:a birds nest
Reply:A very plump bird, put it on a diet then release it back into the wild. If it is big then keep it well fed until christmas. Then eat it!
Reply:a nest
Reply:a seed
Reply:it could be a very old guttie golf ball.if it is it could be worth a few quid.
Reply:spit ball from a bat
Reply:It's most likely a wasps nest, particularly if the feathers are a sort of cross with a paper like substance
Reply:Was it growing on the tree? Or did you find it lying on the ground by the tree? I kind of need this information to search this out for you. Please resubmit with the edits to give this information and I will surly try to help you.
Reply:Yes it will be a dorm mouse nest. They love to nest in yew trees. Maybe there's wee mouse inside ....a wee tim'rous beastie

Or it could be as was said earlier, the very first golf balls were made from feathers but bound tight with twine.
Reply:It sounds like the fungus that grows on my cedar trees. Is a golf ball sized sphere that when mature, opens and has orange feathery appendages all around it. Really gross to have fall down your shirt when mowing under the trees!
Reply:Owl yarp possibly. Any bones nearby?
Reply:a magic fairy frisbee
Reply:shuttlecock?
Reply:Sounds like a very odd Owl Pellet - but possible.
Reply:Could be the digestive output from an Owl.
